Below are links to various guidelines freely available on the internet. This is by no means complete and links may become broken from time to time. This is mainly for use as a resource for easy access to those revising or for a quick update between clinic patients!

Junior doctor contract update

Written by Amar Puttanna on Monday, 06 June 2016 21:05.

Dear members,

YDEF recently represented diabetes and endocrinology trainees at the JDC meeting in London. Johann Malwana discussed the outcome of the meetings with ACAS and the principles of the contract. Subsequently NHS Employers have released the contract in full as well as details on pay breakdown.

We urge our members to read this contract thoroughly and assess for themselves whether they find this acceptable or not. We at YDEF are still unclear about certain aspects of the contract and readily admit that it can be confusing at times. We look forward to more details and sample rotas. There is an FAQ page by the BMA and an FAQ from NHS employers to help answer some questions you may have. In addition, we also encourage you to attend the regional roadshows which will explain the contract in more detail.

All BMA members will subsequently be asked to vote on whether they accept the contract or not. Therefore it is imperative that you understand the contract itself, impact on both current and future trainees and the implications of a yes or no vote.

As we continue to stress, YDEF represents and promotes the needs of our members and will continue to update you on progress.

Written by Amar Puttanna on Friday, 08 April 2016 15:01.

NHS employers recently published the updated junior doctor contract with full terms and conditions. Please take time to read the contract and explanations here.
We at YDEF do not support a contract that remains unsafe and unfair to trainees.

With the last 48hour strike having just finished, we also like to highlight to our members that the next strike will be a full walkout including emergency care between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th April 2016.

YDEF Retinopathy 2015: the trainee perspective

Written by Amar Puttanna on Thursday, 18 February 2016 12:02.

On the 7th-8th December 2015, 22 trainees attended the YDEF Retinopathy course in Birmingham. This was a well received and enjoyable event and below is a short overview of the day from one of the attendees.

Early in December last year just over 20 diabetes specialist registrars, from around the country, congregated at Heart of England's Diabetic Eye Screening Centre for the 4th YDEF "Diabetic Retinopathy and Screening for Diabetologists". This was once again oversubscribed and looks set to be a firm fixture in the YDEF calendar. I was about to find out why.
