SfE/NWES regional clinical cases meeting

Supported by a grant from the Society for Endocrinology, the North West Endocrine Society is holding a free to attend Regional Clinical Cases Day on Thursday 1st December 2016 in Manchester.

The first aim of the event is to bring together the Endocrinology community throughout the North West, and further afield, for a day of education, debate and discussion. Secondly, we want to inspire students and junior trainees to consider a career in this rewarding field.

Live Symposium of EASD 2016

PCM Scientific in association with Novartis are organising a live symposium on the first day of the EASD Annual Meeting in Munich (European Association for the Study of Diabetes; 12-16 September 2016. The aim of the symposium is to help healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetes to improve their clinical practice.

The symposium will be followed by a number of online ‘case study clinics’ (expert-led webinars where complex cases can be submitted for discussion).

Both the symposium and the case study clinics will be hosted by world-renowned experts in diabetes, and attendees will receive CME credits.

Rowan Hilson Insulin safety award 2016

Colleagues are invited to submit entries to this competition to find the best joint pharmacy and diabetes team initiative to improve insulin and prescribing safety in hospital.

The submissions will be judged against predetermined criteria, by an independent panel chaired by Rowan Hillson, and the winner will be awarded the prestigious annual Rowan Hillson insulin safety award at the ABCD Spring meeting.

Diabetologists are invited to join us for the launch of the proposed Royal College of Psychiatrists Liaison Faculty & Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care guidelines on ‘The management of diabetes in people with mental illness in inpatient settings’ at the International Congress of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Vision UK is the leading annual conference for the eye health and sight loss sectors. Expanding Horizons will push the boundaries for implementing the UK Vision Strategy nationally and ensure that we engage with organisations and influencers across the wider health and social care sectors.

Working with Diabetes UK, part of the conference will consider issues such as the implications of risk-based interval screening, data provision and integrated diabetes care.

People's Award - Quality in Care in Diabetes 2017

This is a special award, supported by Diabetes UK, which recognises someone very special who has supported/cared for people with diabetes in 2016.

Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes recognises, rewards and shares innovative practice demonstrating quality in diabetes management, education and services for people with diabetes and/or their families.Gaining QiC recognition means an initiative has been highlighted by the NHS, patients and industry as improving the quality of life for people living with diabetes.

  • This award will be presented to someone who is based in the UK or Ireland and is not a healthcare professional
  • Instead it will go to an individual such as a carer, volunteer, a person with diabetes, diabetes blogger and/or writer, family member – anyone that you think deserves this recognition.
  • People cannot self-nominate

The Change Leaders programme will help you run a robust improvement project in partnership with your local AHSN (academic health science network). 

AHSNs regularly plan, implement and assess projects. They have access to big data sets, project managers and far reaching influence.

We are looking for keen Diabetes and Endocrinology trainees to manage their own improvement projects over a 1-2yr period.
